Sloop, I totally agree with you. So filika is also heading off into the sunset. Had already in 2010 experienced that SOL became something that was not that fun anymore. I did a restart prior the last VO70 around the world race, and had a good first leg, finished top 30. But then the hollow emptiness once more crept into my attitude against SOL sailing. It is just not as fun as it used to be. This is probably due to a mixture of things: I am not able/willing to dedicate the time needed to more than participate, the router / non-router question (I am a non-router aestetics myself), a feeling that SOL sailing gets a bit repetitive, you name it.
Long gone are the days when filika was top ten in overall ranking, and it is not likely that those days will return.
Also , the IRL filika is no longer around (she was our beloved cat who finally became old and sick), so it is perhaps just logical to fade into the void for awhile.
Might be back someday for some occasional SOL sailing though.
All the best to the whole SOL community and to the SOL gods who do a splendid work.

- performance loss issue
- Board » Technical Support
-
In the Sunday Scurry fleet race there was a performance loss behaviour that appeared strange.
At the first rounding, Cape Pembroke, i rounded and got my performance loss (down to 87%) as expected, which slowly gave way to 100% performance again. I did not notice anything strange with my boats behaviour or performance. It was as can be expected for such boat in such wind.
But some other boats appeared to be able to do this drastic course change (about 100 degrees inluding a TWA sign change) without getting a performance loss. In the chat that followed for instance, the boat Nor Svein told his dashboard reported 100% performance. Strange indeed.
My rounding sequence was as follows: starting at CC116, adjust to CC117 just prior rounding, then CC225 (big perf loss), small adjustments to CC 226.3.
As i said, my boats behaviour was as expected, but i was surprised to find myself trailing 1 mile in such a simple turn.
So please look into this. I sense there is a bug somewhere in the algorithms that enabled some boats to make that drastic course change with no or quite small performance losses.

- Re: 10 minutes offset in Bimini race

Added after checking DC.
My DC was set to trigger off TWA=0 at 10:27 just a short distance after finish line. Under the "alarmclock" tab this DC was presented as to trigger off at 10:16, and this would have left me some 2 nm short of the finsih line.
My boat indeed stopped at position that correspond to my 2.0 hour DC (past the finish line).
So SOL time was handled correct, but the time presented under "alarmclock" tab was not correct, but differed about 10 minutes.
My PC clock also show same time as SOL time in Map window (except the UTC + 2 hours swedish summertime).

- Board » Technical Support
-
Noticed in the prerace for Bimini.
Approached finish line, set a DC for TWA=0 in 2.0 hours at UTC 08:27. The DC then appeared under the "alarmclock" tab with a time of UTC 10:16:35. That is not 2.0 hours from 08:27. Seems like there could be a 10 minutes offset of time here.

- Mobile client problems
- Board » Technical Support
-
Did most of the second half of VolvoSuursaariRace from my cellphone. Have lately done quite much of my SOL sailing from the mobile client. It is difficult enough that you do not have access to any weather forecast. But now there was a new problem as compared to my earlier mobile client experiences. My position on the map had a large offset from centre of display. If you divide the display into -100 at left edge and 100 at right edge and similarly 100 at top edge and -100 at bottom edge. Yes centre would be (0,0). I would estimate my position about (-75, 0) at the zoom levels of interest.
Please look into this, because it was not easy going westward when you were so close to the map edge.

- Re: Wrong distance to leader?

But this time Jakob some more explanation is needed I think.
This morning, tuesdag 17/2 at 5.40 UTC, I got up and had 12040 nm to finish. The present leader had about 11580 nm to finish, and he/she was only some 20 nm to starboard. This boat was not even sideways in front but sideways behind me.
That needs some more explanation I believe.

Marstrand to Cowes 2025

We invite you to another race, which will kick off the third quarter of our ARCH series. We'll set off from Marstrand, Sweden, which, along with Skagen, Denmark, marks the line commonly recognised as the border separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. The 650nm route will take our Ripitide 50 across the North Sea and the English Channel to Cowes, England. Watch out for the fast ferries crossing the Channel from Calais to Dover 😊.

Nantucket Sprint 2025

Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Enjoy!

Nearly there; only 2500nm to go, round the Horn and up the Red Sea to Suez into what will more than likely be more headwinds for this sixth leg of our African circumnavigation, to be followed in September by a final sneaky dash up the canal back to where we started all those months ago. Aland Sea TIMED Race
Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
