Even if I agree with all of the rules of ITA,except maybe the rule:be always on CC and not on TWA in windshifts,I must say that most important of all the rules of ITA is missing:Be sure to have the best router on the market,or even better program it yourself if you are able to.
Than you are sure to be the top racer on SOL

    It should read:

    Official FINAL RANKING
    1-VANNA (RSA)
    1-Mega30 (SWE)
    1-Ionkiwi (NZL)
    2-karaoke (ESP)
    3- outlaw (GER)
    4- sassy63 (SWE)
    5- JakeS (FIN)

because that was the ranking according to NOR here:

The second Practice Race will be on monday, february 25th, as follows:

    Time: 19 utc
Start: Cross the line between M1 and shore from west to east

    COURSE

    Start
    Leave M4 to port
    Leave M3 to port
    Leave M2 to starboard

RC I always said I admire your work in SOL and also always told you if you need a help for technical question that I am always on disposition.

For you or whoever closes the race is just the same.Instead that you write "the race closes at ......." you write "the race closes for last run at .......".
Than, after reasonable time(depending on the length of the race), close the race altogether. That final closing will not affect top 100-200 racers and therefor it is not so important.

I do not fight for me but for many others as I have proven in last timed race, where I was 2nd and would I have not gone for last two hours on tennis would have probably won that race,as was leading to Winston.

Important is however that no changes are done after NOR is delivered.

    regards

    p.s.
traditional name of my boat in virtual races is the name of my real boat VANNA(my granddaughter),therefor I would like to change Africa to Vanna if possible.
  • Re: TIMED RACES - Guidelines

I could just say that I am sorry that you do not understand my point.
I am sorry for all those good solers that miss to arrive on time, some even for few seconds like for example ATLET in last timed race.

Now let's take example of an ocean time race.
1000 boats started on very good wind and very probable for all of them to improve their times.Till few hrs before arrival it shows that for most of them it will be record run.Than the wind situation changes drastically and few miles before arrival the race closes.Hundreds of boat skippers are furious.
That is possible scenario and when it happens, than you will understand my point of view.

As a reply to Marku Haninen:The race could be opened for double of the best time in short races and progressively less for longer races.

    CLOSING OF TIMED RACE

It is imperative that the closing of Timed Race corresponds to last possible start.
So for example if the race closes at 12 00 hrs your latest start time is until that hour.

This question is well discussed in past and we agreed that closing the race while hundreds of boats are still running(Ocean Timed Race)is not practicable.
This question must be cleared once for all and in NOR should read "This race will close for last start on ........"

My eyes are full of tears and for long time I did not cry.It is to big strike for me and I am so sad.

Rest in peace my dear friend

I liked this man even if I never met him. From the conversations in the chat you decide whether you like the person or not and I did like him.

He has made incredible improvements in this virtual sailing site.

I remember him many times leading the race and than foaling asleep and destroy everything. The other time he was in the lead and had to take his young daughter to the doctor and obviously lost the top position.

He was so happy once when he won the race and all the favorites were in the race.
He was very good virtual sailor.

When he started winning many races I asked him, where did he comes from, other virtual sailing site.He said he is only here on SOL for several years and before he was mediocre sailor but learned from the best on this site.

Several times recently I asked myself, where is A.Gage, but than thought he has probably a lot of work with his real boat.

    I miss you A.Gage

My sincere condolences to his family

We started with Tall Ships(sailing),continued with Viking Longship(sailing+rowing)the next would probably be Roman Galleons from 1st century(mostly rowing) and finally Roman Galleons from 3rd century(only rowing).

Than we would be ready to change our name from SOL to ROL. lol
  • Re: Virtual sailing old ships
    Board » General Discussion
You must be joking guys, what are we here virtual sailing or virtual rowing.

On longship Drake we have than mixed polars for sailing and rowing.
This is really for big -L O L-

If RC and some of you like to sail that way I would propose that those races are not being ranked and at the same time insert normal sailing boat race which is ranked.

We shall than see how many will chose one or other race.
  • Virtual sailing old ships
    Board » General Discussion
I am working on promoting SOL on different other virtual sailing sites but I am often told "what sailing with those square sails boats, forget it.
That was before we had this unreasonably sailing with this viking boat.
Polars of these boats are really stupid, wander who did them.
Sailing strait to the wind with square sails is impossible.
Where on earth you should be looking for slower winds to go faster and that is possible with these boats(look at the polars of 3 knts and 6 knts)

We IRL sailors can not switch our minds to sail unreasonably.

I appreciate the work RC is doing on SOL,but this kind of boats are not what we really want in virtual sailing.

Joanne's Test Race Zone

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Nantucket Sprint 2025

Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Enjoy!

Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total.
