POSTED ON FB BY YAKKA's daughter (I have permission to share):

    QUOTE
My dad, Steve Alloway, died in the early hours of Saturday morning. He battled this horrible disease right to the end, insisting on getting up and getting on with it. One of the last things he said to me was "jessica, dont bullshit a bullshitter". It is heartbreaking that he has left us at 57 years old and with lots more yachting to do and his big building project at home to complete. Dad was surrounded by us three girls, his baby sister and one of his dearest friends. He died peacefully sleeping next to mum and is no doubt testing out his new sails on Beep Beep. We love you dad and you will be forever in our hearts. Dad will be at home with us till his service which will also be here at home on Waiheke at 11am Tuesday 14th June. Friends of the street will be available for ferry pickups. If you need our address in Onetangi please private message me. Sail on dad Xx

It is with sorrow that I have to tell you that NZL_Yachtyakka has slipped his mooring for the last time and headed off into the big blue.

Many of you will know he had been diagnosed with cancer last year and had had major surgery and underwent treatments.

In typical Yakka fashion he threw himself into the business of recovery with energy, enthusiasm and a brilliantly open mind. Sadly, this was not to be enough and having last seen comms in Facebook from him last week, I have heard that Steve died in the early hours of this morning at his home on Waiheke Island.

This is what I wrote in Facebook:

    QUOTE
    RIP my dear Yakka ... you were one of the first Kiwis I met when I started virtually racing on Sailonline.org and your wonderful enthusiasm fast led to Waiheke becoming our practice racing NZ home. You have always brought a marvellous energy, fun and enthusiasm to whatever you did, I am sad i wasn't well enough to meet you when you "did Europe" a couple of years ago. You may have sailed off into your next adventure, but you will never be forgotten. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{BIG HUGS TO ALLOWAY FAMILY}}}}}

Rod - I will draw Markku's attention to this... BUT I believe I can throw some light on this.

As you know, Sailonline NavSim AB when it was formed "moved" the Sailonline server from a small stand-alone one in Sweden to a larger one in Germany run by a company called Hetzner. Its a server "farm".

Early on we had problems with some of our emails being blocked as malicious etc and investigation showed that a former tenant on the server Sailonline NavSim AB had been allocated had been a"baddie". Our Tech Team worked on the matter, providing relevant IDs etc to Microsoft and the world and, as far as I know the matter was fixed.

This is either a hangover "blacklist" from those days (2013) OR its something new.

Either way, I am sure out Tech Team will let us know!

P.S. WX Inspector was established on hmm's server (which lives with the Sailonline one at Hetzner) just before Aaron died... but it may be that it doesn't have up to date certificates as WX Inspector was created in 2012 or so.

Sailonline is delighted to announce that for the first time, we will be partnering with the prestigious San Diego Yacht Club (SDYC) for the second ever running of the SoCal 300 race. SDYC has been racing in the waters off San Diego for 130yrs, and will be the first USA West Coast yacht club to bring virtual sailing navigation to its members and the west coast sailing community.

The SoCal 300 is the third and final event of this year’s California Race Week and sees the fleet race a slalom course from Santa Barbara to San Diego, starting on 3 June.

Sailonline will be going head to head with the real fleet – it is intended to bring the tracks of the real racers on-screen – and as we are racing our Santa Cruz 52 polar, there are three direct competitors in the current Entry List –
    Elyxir, Lucky Duck and Prevail

Joanne's Test Race Zone

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Nantucket Sprint 2025

Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Enjoy!

Aland Sea TIMED Race
Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
