New race Suggestion. 2066 NM
East Coast of USA from Maine to the Dry Tortuga's. Keeping close to shore with a mix of open water and inland navigation. Any Multihull I did do google earth in conjunction with SOL so I know there are some potential "short cuts" which are intended. Yea, or nay.. see attached google earth.. |

Hiya gator - thank you for your proposed course. I have had a quick look at it in Google Earth, though, and it looks a lot of fun! I love the description!!
It will be added to the List of Proposed Races yet to be raced as a week race so keep an eye on the draft calendars as they appear in the Race Calendar Forum and if you see a spot that works for it, don't hesitate to shout out!

it can go anywhere it will fit..no special dates needed. I'm working on setting up a Caribbean tour based on Jimmy Buffett Songs. Ie any place he's mentioned in the Caribbean ...in one of his songs would be a way point... but its an awful lot of songs to go through...

Just a bit of constructive criticism here: The legs are not really long enough to allow for much strategy to diverge among the fleet - especially as 1 side is blocked by land - ie, I would expect this to be a real 'Follow the leader' race, and with marks setup as they are, mostly less than 125nm between in a 2500nm race, it would be an absolute killer race time-wise.
A good finish would require a LOT of time online, over a number of days. Much like 'Around Turkey' but without the few open water sections to either relax or make a strategic comeback... Just my 2c The other thing to remember: SOL maps use the GSHHS data, GE will have features SOL does not. (Cape Hetteras for example??) I help develop the client interface for the best online ocean racing sim there is... __/)/)_/)__ |

I can definitely open up the legs and remove some of the waypoints to allow boats to head out to see for higher winds...easy enough to do. I was just following the directions in the race setup guide that was asking for more waypoint for ranking purposes... I did zoom in on the SOL areas where I wanted the waypoints set up to ensure that there were open passages for the cut through. We have had plenty of races where there was not much ability for fleet to diverge on a week long race, Hellyaa comes to mind near the finish, the Scandinavian tours long races with right confine which mean lots of computer time. the Rum run had lots of mark rounding in a long race in tight quarters...... race around turkey.... St Lawrence islands... looking at GE I could pull out Manticus Island. for 250nm first leg, I could remove block Island and Marthas Vineyard for a 200 nm second leg form Boston to NYC. remove Altanic city for a 230nm from NYC to mouth of the Chesapeake, remove Hatteras and cape lookout for a 270nm to bluff island. remove charleston and hilton head for a 280nm leg to St Augustine. remove the Cape Canaveral for a 280nm to Key Largo, and then have a shot from largo to the tortugas for the finish removing Marathon, Key West, Marquesas and long key... |

Gator... Those were going to be my EXACT suggestions. Looks like fun!
Another idea would be to make it a "series", like the SSANZ races. Race1: Start>>Cape Code Race2: Cape Cod>>NYC Race3: NYC>> ChesBay Race4: ChesBay>> Bluff Island Race5: Bluff>> St Augustine Race6: St Aug>> Miami (or Ft.Lauderdale) Race7: MIA/FTL>> Tortuga These are all roughly in the 220-275nm range. And make it a rapid turnaround. Something like "start of next leg is 24hr after the 50th finisher" or 24hr after 25% of fleet across the line. Also, series winner could be best 5-of-7, so there could be 2 throw-outs for those who can't/don't want to commit to all. The March Calendar only has SWR and SSANZ. I think this would make a fun addition/ alternative. Just my $0.02 (adjusted for inflation) Well done! SP |

I had thought about breaking it in 3 ie a northern (maines to AC), central(AC to HH) and southern(HH to DT)... which could make for some nice weekend racing... had not though about breaking it up even more into some longer "day" races I am not a huge fan of the wide open ocean races. I do enjoy "mark roundings" and island dodging... which does require more "seat time" I had not though about making it a "series" either... |

Marstrand to Cowes 2025
We invite you to another race, which will kick off the third quarter of our ARCH series. We'll set off from Marstrand, Sweden, which, along with Skagen, Denmark, marks the line commonly recognised as the border separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. The 650nm route will take our Ripitide 50 across the North Sea and the English Channel to Cowes, England. Watch out for the fast ferries crossing the Channel from Calais to Dover 😊.

Nantucket Sprint 2025
Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Aland Sea TIMED Race
Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
