14 years old should have no problems with most of this.
Will need guidence in the maths IF you get into sight reduction tables. However the protractor and plumb weight can be used for distance off. Use trees, how far will it come if the treee was to fall down. Horizontal angles = treasure hunt = 50m this bearing, 30m that bearing, then how far back to start?? or treasure here. At 14 a lot of kids are aleady great dinghy racing sailors. Push them!! If it breaks, it's not strong enough! |

 Dear Paul - this is Denmark - not NZ Practical activities are almost unknown for many children here! Pushing pupils gives trouble...
Actually we used NZ-schoolsystem as rolemodel, but now it ends up in nothing, as usual here in Denmark  |

Then you will have to fallback on the make it exciting, fast and add an element of danger!!,
Those that don't make it, MAKE THEM WALK THE PLANK!! Also PEANALISE and child who does not speak like a pirate e.g. "Ahoy there my teacher Miss" "Time to cast off and go home, mee hearties" "Pieces of Eight" If it breaks, it's not strong enough! |

10.00 UTC will be fine (I wrote 09.00 earlier) I dont know anything about boattypes, but a boat with regular polarlines might be preferable. I am sure you have chosen a very nice boat

Wouw. I only just saw this.
I was born and raised in Nordborg. Went to high school in Sonderborg. Sailed from Dyvig Marina ... and am racing the Fyn Rundt and Als Rundt regularly. Count me in ... and count on me for supplementary local insights and information. As for the waypoints - to make things more realistic: Waypoint 1 should probably be moved a little to the West. I don't know whether Kegnaes will show up as an island or a peninsula. The latter is correct. Waypoint 2: I don't think any Race Committee would suggest a direct route from WP 2 to 3. Southern tip of Langeland would be more realistic for WP 2; but also much more tedious. I suggest WP 2 be left as is for excitement
Waypoints 3-5: Perfect. Except one thing: When I made the Round Funen Race a year or two back, the little peninsula sticking up out of Funen was shown as an island in the race geography. It really shouldn't be. |

Marstrand to Cowes 2025
We invite you to another race, which will kick off the third quarter of our ARCH series. We'll set off from Marstrand, Sweden, which, along with Skagen, Denmark, marks the line commonly recognised as the border separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. The 650nm route will take our Ripitide 50 across the North Sea and the English Channel to Cowes, England. Watch out for the fast ferries crossing the Channel from Calais to Dover 😊.

Nantucket Sprint 2025
Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Aland Sea TIMED Race
Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
