spackel - Thank you for the reminder. I have just had a rummage around inside the various locations that files were put last year and have found your kmz file.
My apologies but your request was missed because I had so much to try and learn when I volunteered to help SOL last June. Nothing has been deleted though and your file is complete. I will set up the race presently and will post in the Race Proposals forum a link to preview how it looks in sol. Good weekend courses are always a pleasure!! ![]() UPDATE: 1428bst: spackel please now check out the Race Proposals Forum ![]() --- Last Edited by RainbowChaser at 2011-07-01 13:27:12 --- |

Spackel, RC:
Took a quick peek as SOLboat. Devilish course... LOVE IT!!! Are the two marks that are in water supposed to be on adjacent landmass or is it set up this way IRL? Hope we do this one soon... and with a good breeze. Nice job, Spackel! SP |

Hi,
Looks nice and yes it is a hard corse, not much sleep if we do it (not for the once doing it IRL either, it is a two-hand race) The two marks in the water (Ulholmens kalv and Mjölkskärsfyr) are supposed to be passed on the inside, e.g. mark on starbord. They are there to keep the race as a category 4 race, close to shore |

No ocean race in the line up into the middle of Aug.
For the first time in 3 years we missed the TransAt. The Pacific cup has already started. Nothing but short races that start in tight difficult bays at difficult times for us Anti-poles. Concerning starting races that can be done with DC; contrary to what some one (or ones) said, it is not a matter of choosing to watch TV. Rather it is a matter of having to sleep, or work, or having (as in my case) limited times of available internet connection. Obstacle courses are not real navigation exercises, rather mostly point to point drag races. These only tend to reward those who have unlimited time to sit the computer. They can be fun as a occasional diversion, but as a study diet are becoming boring. One other thing: Races that include different classes should not be included in the SYC rankings (same as the IMSYC races). Unless the results are handicapped or the results are broken down by fleet, as in one design races. RC has done a wonderful job, but we do need to get back to what made this a great site. --- Last Edited by Jack Watson at 2011-07-05 21:07:08 --- |

captjack - I am hugely mindful of the missing ocean races. As SOL was not sure how many would participate in the Tall Ships Races and, frankly, still aren't with three more to go, server capacity has had to be born in mind.
We will actually be having two ocean races fairly close together.. the long awaited Maui to Petropavlovsk Kamchatskiy and a TransAt. Watch this space (or the draft and Current calendars) for an update!! Thank you for taking the time to post... 'tis much appreciated! ![]() UPDATE There will be an ocean race starting this weekend... details to be posted shortly. --- Last Edited by RainbowChaser at 2011-07-06 13:15:32 --- |

Have you dropped this year's Mackinac Race ?

There will be a Race to Mackinac on SOL this year.
We had hoped for a contact at the IRL race organisers to be found by our SOL "agent in the field" , so that we would race at the same time, but, sadly, that wasn't forthcoming. |

Well I understand that scheduling can get complicated at times, so it goes . . .
However I had been looking forward to this event as it has been a staple offering in the past. Not only that but if run concurrent with the race then there is the added benefit of live tracking of the actual participants which will not be available otherwise. Another point of information is that the Mackinaw races involve 2 Yacht Clubs each year, one for the Port Huron start and the other for Chicago. Whichever one goes first one year changes places in the next. Every few years there is a Super Mac where the boats 'race' from the finish of the 1st to the start of the 2nd. So there is the possibility of a 3 leg combination for us even if they do not include the interim leg. I'm just saying. Even though I live in the region please do not appoint me to coordinate with the Yacht Clubs for their sanction. Now if we run our own this time around please consider doing a Chicago to Port Huron or vice versa to fully experience the Grandeur of this Great Lakes Spectacle. None so blind |

8mrWho - oh that's worth knowing. Would you be able to find out when the next SuperMac is going to be run? Your wish not to deal with the yacht clubs is noted but to have someone local who can, even if only via the internet, find out information is really helpful. Your doing a little legwork here would also save errors creeping in!!

Well the boats have to sail from Mackinac to start at the next venue whether they are racing or not, so the opportunity exists for us to virtually include the connecting leg.
Bayview Yacht Club (Port Huron) http://www.byc.com/ Port Huron to Mackinac http://www.bycmack.com/ Welcome to the 2011 Bayview Mackinac Race. It's an honor to be the Chairman for the 87th annual running of this freshwater classic, which attracts boats of all shapes and sizes, as well as sailors from across the world. In the nine decades that the Bayview Mackinac Race has been sailed, much has happened. Wars, economic depressions, and other significant events have transpired, yet the Race has gone on. In fact, President Franklin D. Roosevelt wired a message to Bayview during World War II when word reached the White House that the Club was considering canceling the race. That message read: "Sail your race." Even then, it was clear that this race was and is important for sailors and for the State of Michigan. Bayview did sail the Mackinac Race that year, and has done so every single year since the first Bayview Mackinac Race in 1925, making it the longest consecutively run freshwater race in the world. This year's race starts on July 23, 2011. Chicago Yacht Club http://www.chicagoyachtclub.com/ CYC Race to Mackinaw http://www.cycracetomackinac.com/ The 103rd running of Race to Mackinac 2011 covers 333 statute miles (289.4 nautical miles) from Chicago, starting just off Navy Pier, to Mackinac Island, Michigan. It is the oldest annual freshwater distance race in the world. Marstrand to Cowes 2025

We invite you to another race, which will kick off the third quarter of our ARCH series. We'll set off from Marstrand, Sweden, which, along with Skagen, Denmark, marks the line commonly recognised as the border separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. The 650nm route will take our Ripitide 50 across the North Sea and the English Channel to Cowes, England. Watch out for the fast ferries crossing the Channel from Calais to Dover 😊.

Nantucket Sprint 2025

Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Enjoy!

Aland Sea TIMED Race
Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
