At 0743 in leg 6 of the round the world ITA 2011 noticed Exmer on a strange tack UC logged into Emers acct and as no DC was set presumed Exmer was asleep and so put him back on course.
They had not been asked to baby sit the boat Exmer had made a mistake and they saved him a few places. We all oversleep and get delayed and suffer the consequences but to see all the "top" boats baby sitting each other ruins the game for me. ITA2011 is a team, fair enough, but is it fair to all the genuine players playing on their own in the true spirit of the game? Maybe we should only be allowed to log in from 1 PC? |

I apologize.
I take full responsibility for that and I now realize that it was not a good thing to do. I also would point out that it happened at a point were all the results were clear. But again, by bad. (ita10267) |

Hi guys,
I understand the point you make here and great that Ita has resonded so quick to apologize for this. I think in this case its just like any other friend you wan't to help out. It is true that this can be considered a breach of the self imposed rules by team ITA but I see no harm in this case. In general its so sad and frustrating to see a boat that has sailed so many miles especially in the long legs fall short on the final few miles to the line. Its good sportsmanship and in the SOL spirit to help each other out as much as we can. But like you noted a little unfair due to earlier agreements. (I write this as a personal reply, but feel this is within the concensus of Sailonline admins) I provide feedback and am admin of Sailonline.

sorry ..I do not understand why you are referring to a breach of our self imposed rules . We have self imposed the rule that we would have not boatsitted Gilles other than occasionally in the RTW ( btw with the end of the series the issue does no longer exist , as Gilles will not be in the water again when ITA_2011 will be ) . This story has been totally misunderstood, and if you look at the chat you will realise that : this morning ITA noticed that Exmero was going astray and shouted , as any other soler does , for anybody , when it happens . NZL Undercover , who has the pass for Exmero ( we dont ) interveened and put him back on track . Some solers saw this as ITA trying to take advantage of having exmero keeping position . This was totally untrue as the ranking numbers were completely set since long before then . Antonio ( exmeromotu ) is one of the top gentlemen and sportsmen in SOL and I do not think anyone will ever self impose as a rule that of not shouting if seing him in trouble .....surely not ME
hope all clear now ....yes ? now I can read your mind ...it is saying : " if it is so ...why did ITA apologise ?" well....you cannot have all the answers from us ..LOL ..

Hi Guys,
Ita 2011 noticed that Exmeromotu was going off track and mentioned it in the chat. I happened to be around at the time and logged into his boat.......... He had no Dc's set so I presumed he was "missing in action" or probably asleep so I gybed his boat for him towards the finish line. It had nothing to do with Ita and was all my doing. Sorry if this upset some people. I think its better that we do this openly rather than not letting anyone know. I could have done this and not said anything who would know then. The rules are clear, max 1 boat per person, but not limit on number of people per boat. This rules comes from practicality and enforceability. Boat sitting is explicitly allowed (and AFAIK it is in all similar online venues). So, it's not cheating, it's not unfair (since it's explicitly stated) and it's acceptable.

Don't get me wrong I am not making accusations or looking for apologies. Without you guys UC, Exmer, ITA's, Viking etc who show true devotion to the game SOL would be no where near as much fun and educational as it is.
You've got to feel for people such as RAFA who was just pipped to the post by Exmer and ohm and Adam who beached next to the finish line and no one to jump in and correct for them. Looking after a boat for a few hours when asked to is very different from what happened above. Again well done for your devotion, competitiveness and expertise and thanks Kalle for a great game. |

Boat-sitting for another sailor is technically the same as having two, or more, boats of your own. The rules state (see Kalle Haglund above) that you can only have one boat. But I could register a 2nd, 3rd, etc. boat using anybody's e-mail address, and therefore run as many boats as I choose.
This is not any different from running both my own boat, and boat-sitting for another (or even several). All that prevents me from doing so is my own honesty (and/or "Corinthian" spirit) and there is no provision to catch any dishonesty included in the 'mechanisms' of SOL. p.s. I have twice logged in to my own boat on a new 'bed-side patient computer system' while visiting my wife in hospital, so the system does not check which computer I am actually using. --- Last Edited by Rod at 2011-04-02 16:21:58 --- If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy. |

We invite you to another race, which will kick off the third quarter of our ARCH series. We'll set off from Marstrand, Sweden, which, along with Skagen, Denmark, marks the line commonly recognised as the border separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Aland Sea TIMED Race
Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
