Tazu -- thanks for spotting the error at Napier Mark, it has now been fixed to ensure the fleet passes it to starboard!
76T -- please would you post the polar for the Young 11 if you think that will make us a little more competitive. SOLer WairuaExpress is sailing in the IRL Round North Island race and SOL is hoping that we will get the technical side set up so that Open Country (Wairua's real boat) will appear on the SOL race screen. The SOLgods and others are working to get this set up.
Thus, it would seem more appropriate to try and match what the IRL fleet will be doing. In his latest email WairuaExpress has indicated the following possible times for each leg of the race: QUOTE I think I told you that we have 3 stops in the race! Manganui, 24 hrs ETA Sun 20th Depart Mon 21st Wellington 48 hrs ETA Fri 25th Depart Mon 28th Napier 24 hrs ETA Wed 02 Mar Depart Fri 04 AKL Finish ETA Sun 06th Mar. ( well that's the game plan - but the Weather Gods will have the final say! UNQUOTE For SOL to run similar legs would therefore seem most appropriate... we could even run the timing as we are doing with the Global Challenge i.e., using the SOL winners arrival as the trigger for the "overnights". Hi All,
I'm Cameron, chairman of SSANZ. I'd like to see a online RNI to replicate our race so that shore based supporters can have a go too. I can put a story on the official SSANZ website and links from the homepage so people know it's happening. Ultimately I'd like to replicate the actual race as close as possible and as such could email start times for legs etc as soon as they are notified. Just an update for anyone following this thread. The great news is that SSANZ is very keen on buddy-ing up with SOL for this year's Round North Island race so that supporters and family members of those racing the real race will be able to sail it virtually.
SSANZ is the New Zealand "home" of short-handed offshore racing so, who knows, but this may be the beginning of a great relationship between SOL and SSANZ!! |

Hi Ashley. The image for the Young 88 is still on Sol'd but the text download is missing. It can be accessed here:

Here is an ORC certificate for an (older) French Young 88: http://www.ffvoile.net/ffv/public/habitable1/orc/certifs/pdf/11024a.pdf "gain au vent/sous le vent" are VMG at the angles specified. We invite you to another race, which will kick off the third quarter of our ARCH series. We'll set off from Marstrand, Sweden, which, along with Skagen, Denmark, marks the line commonly recognised as the border separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. The 650nm route will take our Ripitide 50 across the North Sea and the English Channel to Cowes, England. Watch out for the fast ferries crossing the Channel from Calais to Dover 😊.

Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Aland Sea TIMED Race
Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
