There has been some discussion as to whether it is appropriate or not to exclude tricky short weekend races from rankings, given that a SYC weekend ranking is based on the best 7 results out of the previous 14 races.

I haven't voted on this as yet.
I THINK I know which button is which, but am not absolutely sure. How many have clicked on the button "Yes" when they meant "No"? Have they read the note above....very carefully? Can it be confirmed that the note above is correct and somewhat at odds with the typography? |

BEFORE you vote there three "circles" laid out and my first post above the poll describes which is which (once you have voted there are only the results showing).
Andrew Lees - what problem do you have with this? As background SHORT/TRICKY races are those like Seacarting round the Swedish archipelago or the recent very short slalom course on Lake Erie which, in the past, were included in rankings but many vociferously objected to this as the races are essentially non DC-able! --- Last Edited by RainbowChaser at 2010-10-12 14:45:33 --- |

The "Yes" is beside the "No" button and the "No" is beside the results(distantly annotated) button.

I cannot remember DC-ability as being a basic SOL-criterion.
A race is a race, and there is no such thing as a non-tricky race. In ONE word: INCLUDE! Sail well in fair winds. |

Almost by definition a "short" race is not DC'able.
That is one of the reason that they should finish by Sunday afternoon. My vote: "Yes" |

Here is another take on the thing. I have to work to live. The only time that I can put in decent care and diligence to my boat is on weekends. Weekdays are for work unfortunately. So, I give each weekend race that I race a HUGE effort, sometimes not sleeping at all through the race. It is my results on weekends that are largely responsible for my overall ranking. Take the ranking away and I cannot hope to compete in the SOL Club Ranking System.

Hi All,
Having recently joined SOL full-on, I'll throw in an opine. Most of the world works the Mon-Fri routine so it would seem logical to have the time/concentration/effort intensive races when most can participate. It would be nice, however, to throw a few of these into the weekday mix as well. I recently tried to get through the tricky Seacart race using DC's as I worked both weekend days and spent a good bit of time kedging off the rocks after miscalculating time/distance/wind/TWA and whatever else I could screw up. Still good fun but would have been great if it was on one of my upcoming weekdays off. I say an 80/20 mix of weekend/weekday for these short tacking sprints would be great. ShamPir |

Marstrand to Cowes 2025
We invite you to another race, which will kick off the third quarter of our ARCH series. We'll set off from Marstrand, Sweden, which, along with Skagen, Denmark, marks the line commonly recognised as the border separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. The 650nm route will take our Ripitide 50 across the North Sea and the English Channel to Cowes, England. Watch out for the fast ferries crossing the Channel from Calais to Dover 😊.

Nantucket Sprint 2025
Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Aland Sea TIMED Race
Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
