This is the current thinking for September this year - what do you think?

Hi Rainbow!
A suggestion. Is it possible to give the actual races different colours? eg. Weekend - Green Midweek - Blue Ocean - Orange Practice - Pink I find the calender a little cluttered and confusing. Not one for practice races they detract from the calender. If it looked better Id print it out and stick it to my office wall! There are a nice mix of new races coming up...I like! Well done, keep it up! |

Jawz - thanks for the comments!! At present the screengrabs are from the YahooGroup calendar which lacks functionality. Please bear with it for now but a transition to an excel-format with colour coding etc is definitely in my mind too!!
For clarification - the reference to "Practice" in the calendar is not to practice racing but merely to the opening of the race, i.e., the opening of the pre-race practice time for that race --- Last Edited by RainbowChaser at 2010-08-01 11:18:18 --- |

Hi RC,
i have two sugestions regarding your (quite impressiv looking) Calender: the first is quite simple, as it is only to move the Distance and Boattype to the first appearance as practise Race. Doing so would maybe make te 'Start' Notice and Time more prominent. The second Idea is more difficult and may need some help from Kalle or Jakob, but it may improve the Website if your Calender is displayed on the Homepage (maybe miniraturized, inheriting a Link to a larger View), giving every Visitor a quick overview what he can expect in near Future. Another improvement would be, that you dont need to download the .xls and open another Program for viewing. Regards Tazumaki |

Thanks for looking at the draft calendar and for your two suggestions. 1. Race info There is no practice mentioned in the new calendar (thus leaving it flexible for SOL to open practice when it is appropriate) so I am not really sure where I can move distance and boat-type? If you mean I should make it all one line with the name of the race then the column widths are going to be horrid!! Can you clarify please? 2. Calendar Viewing Is this attachment better? Sorry Rainbow, i looked at the August Calender by fault (because i had two Calenders downloaded and clicked the wrong one).
As there is no more Practise mentioned in the new Calender anymore, my suggestion as posted is invalid. Distance, Boat and Racename in one single line of cause isn't usefull at all. Another, maybe weird, Idea to make Starttime more prominent, would be to write only "Start:18:00 UTC" in huge Letters into the first Day of a Race, followed by Name, Distance and Boat on the next Day. As Racecategories are diferentiated by Color and as it is quite unlikely that one race of a category is followed by another without at least one Day in between, that shouldn't lead to confusion. But a Visitor may notice on first sight, Friday 13th. at 18:00 UTC for Example, i'll have to be here for the Start. Thanks for attaching the File as an Image. It's much more easy to view than an .xls, because it's shown directly in the Browser. As a .jpg is easyly scalable, it should be possible to show a minimized Version on the Homepage, maybe above the Twitter box, inheriting a link to the Image in normal size, giving the Visitor easy acces to the Information he is potentially searching for. |

Marstrand to Cowes 2025
We invite you to another race, which will kick off the third quarter of our ARCH series. We'll set off from Marstrand, Sweden, which, along with Skagen, Denmark, marks the line commonly recognised as the border separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. The 650nm route will take our Ripitide 50 across the North Sea and the English Channel to Cowes, England. Watch out for the fast ferries crossing the Channel from Calais to Dover 😊.

Nantucket Sprint 2025
Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Aland Sea TIMED Race
Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
