This thread was moved from the category Races. Rough idea for a Sunday race in Orange, to set us up for a couple more races.
PROVISIONAL: Leave Start and round the two islands ~54.7s 64.2w, then to ground on tiny island in protected bay at 55.0s 66.9w. Briefing at 1700z where any changes might be made. Provisional Match Race Start at 1700z. Details will be firmed up tomorrow. This is open to all SOLers who want to play with the new boat under close racing conditions. |

I just realized a typo in my previous notice.
![]() Race Start was 1700z with the Brief supposed to be 1600. Sorry folks, I posted 1700 for both.... The First Match Race is underway. Anybody who missed it can set up a second pack and race at a later time TBD by you. Today's Finish, (and the Start for tomorrow,) is the beach at 55.06s 66.85w. Meet us there overnight, if you can't race today. [b[Open to ANY SOL PLAYER! |

MY PROPOSITION
I propose that in view of clock shifting and always longer daytime, we postpone our future practice races for 2000 UTC. The races to be short but complicated Capt.Damir |

Yes INCO this nice person RAINBOW CHASER (RC) is providing wonderful entertainment for us racer, willing to race short races, while race still in practice.
These short races are often more interesting than real race. However we participants give hard time to RC by all our voices making a chaos which is hard to support sometimes, and we are only 10-15 at max. Now you imagine what would be with 50 boats or even more. RC is doing a wonderful work but we racers should improve.Me for first as you know what I asked RC in yday's race: to change the direction of the rounding of the island in order that I can play tennis.Imagine everybody asking some kind of favors before and in the middle of the race. At the end I say -thank you RC for these short races |

africa - thank you! I changed the course yesterday because I understood folks to want a different one to the one I had posted... the change also required amending the island rounding to clockwise. I hesitated to do this in case others had set DCs but because I had no idea who would be racing, and I knew you would, your request convinced me to make the change!
Anyway.. I think there was a helpful discussion in chat last night and.. it is important that IRL sailing-SOLers who matchrace propose good race-courses for us!! Hope you agree ![]() |

Marstrand to Cowes 2025

We invite you to another race, which will kick off the third quarter of our ARCH series. We'll set off from Marstrand, Sweden, which, along with Skagen, Denmark, marks the line commonly recognised as the border separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. The 650nm route will take our Ripitide 50 across the North Sea and the English Channel to Cowes, England. Watch out for the fast ferries crossing the Channel from Calais to Dover 😊.

Nantucket Sprint 2025

Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Enjoy!

Nearly there; only 2500nm to go, round the Horn and up the Red Sea to Suez into what will more than likely be more headwinds for this sixth leg of our African circumnavigation, to be followed in September by a final sneaky dash up the canal back to where we started all those months ago. Aland Sea TIMED Race
Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
