Background info and more detail on http://76trombones.wordpress.com Interesting race so far - It's fun to see the fleet open up depthwise in the first few hours instead of the single-wavefront look that we normally get. Cool also to see how quickly you can identify the different fleets as gaps open up. These differences will start to blur as the wind and course shift from straight-line reaching. Very good point! Ummm in 40 words or less preferably:
In handicapped racing, slow boats are owed time by faster boats, the amount depending on the difference in the yacht's rating. If Boat A owed B 30 seconds, she needs to cross 30 or more seconds ahead to win. Time allowances figured during a race are estimates, and also use "as the crow flies" DTG like SOL's usual ranking. To use the numbers above, find the "Time Owed" for your boat. To compare to the lead boat (Innsbruck, at the moment) project your own position out along the pink predictor the amount of the rating. To compare to another boat, use the difference in ratings: Proud Mary is owed 17 by Innsbruck, while FlyingDog is owed 11. FlyingDog owes Proud Mary 6 minutes. 76T- Have you ever used "Sail Wave" results program?? I thk this could make processing the results relativly easy even for 700+ entries etc

Thanks OC - I've been taking a look at different options. If people like the idea of this kind of race more than once a year we'll definitely work something out
My on-the-fly estimates were underestimating time owed a bit, though the top 50 was "correct". We invite you to another race, which will kick off the third quarter of our ARCH series. We'll set off from Marstrand, Sweden, which, along with Skagen, Denmark, marks the line commonly recognised as the border separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. Nantucket Sprint 2025
Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Aland Sea TIMED Race
Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
