SOL measures dtg as the distance from the boat to the closest point of passing next wp, and from there to next wp etc. The closest point of passing next wp is the minimum distance between the boat and the bisector line created when drawing lines from last wp to the one being rounded and to the next. This creates a continuous dtg-calc that sometimes feels a little long. ...one of the guys behind the game... |

works well approaching a wp (boats not necessarily going close to wp) but does not seem to work as well approaching the finish line (no bisector)... Life is a holiday under the sun |

If I could just add my agreement with some of the points raised. During races the SOL ranking is inconsistent - there is clearly something not quite right. Brain's ranking system is consistently much more accurate in terms of distances measured and where I see boats on screen/where they are in Brain's rankings. From what I understand most people seem to agree with this. Would it be possible to implement Brain's ranking system into SOL???

In some occasions Brains ranking is better and in other situations not... It is quite tricky to find a system that you would feel is correct all the time. Now you have the best of worlds when you can choose to use SOL or Brains as you like  ...one of the guys behind the game... |

I haven´t read anything in the forums before and that is why I state this question. Have you ever consider presenting the results in the races with sailed time?
I alway miss the races with a day ( or two ). At the moment I am 150 nm back the fleet at 7.3 knots. It would to a great help if you can present the races with this, otherwise I will only sail my Albin Express. |

Finally, I would say, you will have the most exact ranking when you are crossing the finishing line. Thats enough for me. IRL you hardly get more propper information about the ranking of your friends (aka opponents). So please take what you get, choose the better ranking either in brain's list or SOL's and try to sail better
)

Final results will always be very accurate, because they are based on sailed time since start, not geographical position.

Kalle: Does that mean that if a boat starts 2 or 3 or 12 hours late, their time of finishing is corrected to actual "sailing time" and the results are adjusted so that the late starting boat is moved up a few places? If it breaks, it's not strong enough! |

No, in "fleet races", the start time is always set to the official race start time.

Marstrand to Cowes 2025
We invite you to another race, which will kick off the third quarter of our ARCH series. We'll set off from Marstrand, Sweden, which, along with Skagen, Denmark, marks the line commonly recognised as the border separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. The 650nm route will take our Ripitide 50 across the North Sea and the English Channel to Cowes, England. Watch out for the fast ferries crossing the Channel from Calais to Dover 😊.

Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Aland Sea TIMED Race
Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
