Page: 1 2 Next

Hallo Solers !
( Shareholders …SYC members and each Community Member )

Nearly two months have gone since SOL became yours , and we want to give you an update on what has been going on behind the stage as well as what we are working on for the immediate future:

Maestro Svein , assisted by Robert1, has done a wonderful job fighting with admin aspects of the change of ownership , and finally managed to issue the share certificates to those who applied for becoming shareholders . We can tell you that some 70 Solers are now owners of Sailonline NavSim AB and none of them has more that 5% of the Company , as we wanted , to make ownership as widespread as possible within the Community. Should any of the new Shareholders not have received his/her Shares certificate and/or copy of the Blue Book yet , please contact Maestro Svein at once.
( svein.a@telia.com ).

The first task we tackled was the formation of a Management Team that could secure SOL and bring it to its future , following the plan that we elaborated with Jakob. Such task is of course still under way , but we are pleased do say that things are nicely coming together :

In the Engine Room we are very strong with Markku. You will be pleased to know that one of the best ever solers, although not racing in SOL since longtime, is constantly helping Markku in that room : Brainaid ( Eddie ) is very active and still very much with us.

Jan ( Sassy63) has been asked/volunteered to lead the Race Committee Room . As you know he is seeking a small number of team mates to complete his role and go ahead at full steam.

Joanne ( RC ) is with no doubts still Head of Operations , and she started training her team ( presently Mark but another two volunteers needed). She has started to liaise with Jan on the 2014 Race Calendar.

The other two Rooms of the Management Team that we envisaged ( Marketing and Regions development ) will be activated at slightly later stage , once the house is secured in its planning and operational aspects. Get ready to form national or continental groups and seek new members as well as opportunities in your areas for SOL ! ;)

The long term vision is that the present Team will bring SOL to stability and well in the path of development and the 2015 Team will be elected by the Shareholders throughout applicant volunteers. Under no circumstances we , who have made the move to take SOL into the future , are supposed to lead forever .

We are very pleased to announce for 2014 a significant sign of innovation : SOL will be running several Yearly Championships with IRL like prizes . We can anticipate that the categories will be : Timed race – Ocean Race – SYC Championship - Sprint races . The appropriate general NORs for the Championships will be published at the beginning of December 2013 latest . It will be challenging to elect to fight for a goal that will last a full year and ultimately become SOL Champions in more than one category! ;)

Development of a new Forum software is also underway . Javakeda ( Bob ) is working hard at evaluation level , well in liaison with Markku for the SOL software interaction related issues . Once in place , not only SOL will be better and different , but we will also have some new communication tools , that will allow us to stay better in touch with Shareholders as well as the entire Community.

To summarize this announcement , we wanted to give you all an update on what is being done , and the feeling that things are happening and will continue to happen ….and….do not forget :

THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING !!

Piero on behalf of all those who are working hard on new SOL.

Speak again soon ……..;))

This is great Piero, go on, we are the best comunity ever created.
Well done, very interesting so far, and a special thanks to those already working so hard to make the new SOL a great success!
Good news indeed Piero and RC.

Can I repeat here, if there is any graphic design work needed, please contact me. My daughter is only too happy to provide assistance here.

Regards

George
Great news all around!! Thanks for all the hard work!! :-)
he he he ... WD Piero & Co!!!
Dear SOL-friends,
We are approaching the outline of the organization we have been designing for quite some time.
SOL has been so far completely depending on one person, Joanne – RainbowChaser – Her achievement is nothing less than mind-blowing, and we must all be extremely appreciative and thankful.
It is with great pleasure that I can now announce the first outline of the organization of SOL for 2014.
The legal entity, Sailonline NavSim AB, will continue in the slimmest of fashions, with Robert (robert1) and me (svein) as Board of Directors, with legal responsibilities for Shareholders Register, Accounting and Tax Returns.
While I have been very operative since the formation of our new, not for profit, endeavor, that operative responsibility is now being accepted by an extremely capable person, namely Piero (WINSTON_4), who is also one of the best SOLers of all times. Piero has always been behind SOL’s transition and his acceptance is a sign of loyalty to the Community as well as confirmation of his committed friendship to me and to you ALL.
I leave it to Piero to decide whether to call himself COO=Chief Operating Officer or something else. He shall regardless have the full support of the Board of Directors, who shall stand in for him whenever needed. All Heads/Chiefs of Rooms will thus have Piero as their main support.
We have already agreed with Markku (hmm) that he is Head/Chief of the Engineering Room and he is joined by Roland (stoertebaeker) and is responsible for assembling the team that he deems is necessary for a stable operation of SOL’s technical platform. Markku is already enjoying the support of another super-SOLer of all times: Eddie (aka Brainaid ).
We have also agreed with Jan (sassy63) that he is the Head/Chief of the SOL Racing Committee and he has already assembled a very capable crew – read more in Forum.
Joanne (RainbowChaser) continues indeed to be Head/Chief of Operations, keeping races and PRs going as before. In addition she’ll be active in buddy-ups in concert with others and remain the ultimate source of information of everything within SOL.
This leaves still open the function of Regions, which is designed to be in charge of making SOL attractive to existing and new sailors and SYC memberships.
Finally we are very happy to announce that Rob (Tyger) has accepted to Head up the Room of Marketing – finding new areas for SOL growth.
SOL’s FUTURE HAS STARTED !!
Hallo Solers !! ;)

I want to give you a quick update on what is being done to prepare an exciting
2014 for us all !

• Our SRC ( Sol Race Committee ) will release in a few hours the Racing Calendar for the First Quarter of 2014, explaining the vision behind the new pace. All comments will be more than welcome.

• As part of such announcement , the races belonging to the NEW FOUR CHAMPIONSHIPS will be nominated , together with dates, course and boat details.

• The General NORs for the four Championships will be published at the same time, and will give you an idea of the effort that is being put in place , as well as the prizes you will aim at.

• As consequence of the introduction of the new Championships concept, as anticipated earlier on , the present WEEK , WEEKEND and OCEAN rankings will end on December 31st 2013 , and they will remain as Polaroid picture of that moment in SOL forever . Recognition of the three podiums will , I am sure , be issued in Home page.

• The Calendar of December as it appears in Forum is fully valid , and I can anticipate that the second Tasman run, taking place usually at the beginning of January will be there . Bear in mind that the SOL YEAR Calendar , is of course not updated to the new vision . It will be revamped once the Q1 Calendar will be known .

Stay tuned during the next 48/72 hours for the unveiling of new SOL plans from 2014 !! ;)

Piero
(WINSTON_4 ) – SOL MT Coord

Joanne's Test Race Zone

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

We'll set off from Marstrand, Sweden, which, along with Skagen, Denmark, marks the line commonly recognised as the border separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. The 650nm route will take our Ripitide 50 across the North Sea and the English Channel to Cowes, England. Watch out for the fast ferries crossing the Channel from Calais to Dover 😊.

Nantucket Sprint 2025

Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Enjoy!

Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
