There are 2 SC52s in the race. That I think we have in our fleet. That would be a good choice.
Other than that I would like to use one of Rhino's designs. Say a Nelson/Marek 52. or NM45, or NM43. Maybe a Catalina 42...if we had polars for those boats. There is a NM30 in the race. ok these are pretty much my home waters.... well at least the eastern end of the race course, so I'd like to give you all a little taste of what my little corner of the world looks like....this pic is of Long Island sound as you all sail past the eastern most end of Long Island. This is the looking north from the entrance to Gardner's Bay at Orient Point, New York.

Once you pass the end of Long Island, you get out into more open ocean. You may want to stop into New Harbor on Block Island for a snack. It's a beautiful old fishing community. Here are some images I found on the internet.

If you decide to sneak into Newport Harbor for dinner, keep Castle Hill Light to starboard and Beavertail Light to port

No serious cruise of New England's waters is complete without a stop at our next destination, Martha's Vineyard. Sadly, I haven't been there in years (decades actually) so no good pics. Luckily our friend Google has plenty of views of this picturesque island.

Just as beautiful as Martha's Vineyard, its neighbor to the east is Nantucket. That's where we are tonight. Maraners approaching Nantucket's main harbor from the North look for Brant Light at the mouth of the harbor. Shoreside, Nantucket is a beautiful Island with many picturesque spots, restaurants ,shops, beaches and even an historic windmill to explore... Mariners approaching Nantucket from the south, look for Sankaty Head Lighthouse a 3rd lighthouse stands on the northern most point. Nantucket has a shoal that extends many miles off the north end of the island. The Nantucket Lightship was stationed here from 1854 through 1985 when a large navigational buoy was set.

I'm going to quote some material about the area from an article in the Connecticut post from 2010... More than 140 shipwrecks lie on the bottom of Long Island Sound, the remains of vessels from the 17th to the 20th centuries doomed by storms, fog or human error. An expanse of water known to divers as "Wreck Alley" ...Lining the floor of the Sound are strands of cables, lobster pots, oyster beds, a gas pipeline and other manmade structures, as much a part of the Sound's ecology as the spits of beach and placid water... Among those wrecks is a wooden Chinese schooner that sank in 65 feet of water off Bridgeport in the late 1800s. Among the ships lost off Milford (just to our North)is a brig owned by merchant Peter Pierett, which sank in the 1700s as it returned from Europe with a cargo of French wine. Oystering grounds have been in existence since the 1840s, and now in some area of the Sound you have oyster beds, clams in nets, conch in cages and lobster pots.. And yes, the waters of LIS have been abused as well... the water is quite murky until you pass through "The Race", which is the eastern opening between Fishers Island and the tip of Long Island to the south. Marstrand to Cowes 2025
We invite you to another race, which will kick off the third quarter of our ARCH series. We'll set off from Marstrand, Sweden, which, along with Skagen, Denmark, marks the line commonly recognised as the border separating the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. The 650nm route will take our Ripitide 50 across the North Sea and the English Channel to Cowes, England. Watch out for the fast ferries crossing the Channel from Calais to Dover 😊.

Nantucket Sprint 2025
Welcome to Nantucket, from whence Herman Melville’s Cap’n Ahab sailed round The Horn into the northern Pacific Ocean to hunt the gray whale - whose migrations are celebrated elsewhere in SOL’s Q4 schedule - he never to return. And whaling too, as the 19th C progressed, like Ahab disappeared from Nantucket as the harbour silted up and mainland Massachusetts whaling stations benefited from rail connections. But beach life, yachting and nostalgia has rescued the island from oblivion, so to celebrate leisure, SOL gives you the Nantucket Sprint - 25nm in 29er_XX’s from east of Tuckernuck Island across the sound to a finish just inside the mouth of the harbour. Aland Sea TIMED Race
Norrtalje Segelsallskap, 70km NE of Stockholm was founded in 1920, and time was when the society’s season opened with a challenging offshore race from the club line off Flaten island at the mouth of the long and narrow Norrtaljeviken, out onto a triangular course around the Aland Sea, to finish at Simpnas slightly to the north on Bjorko island - some 78nm in total. A fine race that SOL, being from these parts, ran annually up until 2013. Last run in autumn 2018, we return here to race the course again in the form a TIMED RUN in spanking new Club Swan 50s.
